I study philosophy of science, epistemology, and bioethics.  My primary areas of research include scientific explanation, causal/statistical inference, and philosophy of biology (especially evolutionary and molecular).

Originally from southern Illinois, I now live in Kansas City where I am an Associate Professor of Philosophy in the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities at Missouri Western State University.

In addition to my philosophical pursuits, I am an aspiring prog-rock keyboardist, tomato gardener, and cook of overly elaborate (and occasionally successful) meals.  My wife works on African food security policy for USAID.  Our daughter is 8 and is passionate about basketball and all things related to dogs.

“I see philosophy and science as in the same boat — a boat which, to revert to Neurath’s figure as I often do, we can rebuild only at sea while staying afloat in it.”
